If your fragrance seems to vanish by lunchtime, the bottle is rarely to blame. A few simple habits can double the life of any perfume.
1. Apply to moisturized skin
Fragrance clings to hydrated skin and evaporates quickly from dry skin. Apply an unscented lotion — or a matching body cream from our bath & body collection — a few minutes before you spray.
2. Spray right after a shower
Warm, clean skin with open pores holds scent best. Pat yourself dry and apply straight away.
3. Target your pulse points
Wrists, the base of the throat, behind the ears and the inside of the elbows are warm, and warmth helps a fragrance unfold through the day.
4. Don't rub your wrists together
Rubbing creates heat and friction that break down the delicate top notes. Spray, then let it dry on its own.
5. Scent your hair and clothes
Hair and fabric hold fragrance far longer than skin. Mist your hairbrush, or spray once into the air and walk through it. A dedicated hair mist is gentler on hair than alcohol-based perfume.
6. Layer the same scent
A shower gel, lotion and fragrance from the same line build a base that lasts all day.
7. Choose a richer concentration
An eau de parfum lasts longer than an eau de toilette, and a parfum or perfume oil longer still. See our concentrations guide.
8. Store bottles away from light and heat
A bathroom shelf is the worst place for perfume. Keep bottles in their box, in a cool, dark cupboard, and they'll stay true for years.
9. Remember: you stop smelling it first
After twenty minutes, your nose gets used to your own fragrance — but everyone around you can still smell it. Resist the urge to keep re-spraying.
